I purchased from the Fettlebox a viton washer seal kit Tilley Washer Kit - The Fettlebox for my late model X246B (mid 1990's) Tilley. Last time I used the lamp it was losing pressure as was evident from the clamp washer seal around the pump The seal kit arrived down under in the mail today so I used it immediately and replaced all the washers. They were all brittle and fell apart. As of writing this moment, the lamp has now been burning for 4 hours without losing pressure. Two seals I didn't use are the two washer valve seals for the control cock and the pump. Mine are square with a spigot for locating in the spring whereas what was in the kit are round. My old ones don't really need replacing and the kit does advise that the two washers supplied are for the older Tilleys. For use with later models a washer holder is required. However, are the squarish washers available or the washer holders?
@bonza I can’t quite follow which washers you mean. Can you post a photo, or identify them from here: Cheers Tony
Ok. The original washers you have must be from the Tilley X246B. I have a couple of the brass pip holders for the older washers (like the ones from the Fettlebox) if you want them. Tony
is it possible to get the newer style washers? more out of curiosity than anything I dont think I really need to replace them as the lamp works fine now after replacing all the other washers and seals. plus I did the same to another Tilley last year and found same so didnt replace those either. a bit like the pump leather cup, always get one in the kit but never have had to replace them
Hi @bonza - the square seals are available and are included in the genuine SP1 service kit. Over here most of us buy the brass pip holders and use the round washers. Part no 611 inclding washer and spring.
