    Hi all,
I took a few devices away for a weekend on the land.
You'll spot a few in here that I hope you recognise.
In the words of the great Roy Walker..... "Say what you see, say what you see!!!!"
I actually didn't take my real fave pressure lamps as they are reserved for garden and safer use.. there's some wick lamps and stoves in there too cos I know we are all into most things paraffin. Hi Nicky Boy, thanks for sharing the pictures of what you took on that trip :) I camp as well and do a similar thing as you but on a smaller scale. I have begun looking on Amazon and other sites for protective cases for mine. I have bought some cases from base-camp.co.uk for my smaller pressure lamps that will fit in them. Wick lamps, are hardier, so I don't worry about them so much, but the pressure lanterns I do. It's a quandary that I have, I use my lamps a lot, and travel with them, but not finding cases for them easy to find. Do you worry, or leave the more restored ones at home?

Have you thought about making your own cases ? A length of 20mm x 20mm wood and some 4mm ply will make a simple box. Use what you like for padding, do a search for packaging foam (e.g. Packaging Foam Cut to Size | Packaging Sheets | GB Foam) or use bubble wrap, old towels or whatever you like.

Hi Henry - I had thought of that, but figured I would see on the Internet, but I think, I will have to make for myself. Thanks for the link it was very helpful :)

@Richard Thompson for my pressure lamps I use an old Corona pop bottle crate (I think it held four bottles and has had any dividers removed and also made my own carrybox which I will post pics of at some point. I take them when in my trusty Hiace Van but in the car boot, space is more of a premium and also they are held in a bit tighter by their neighbours anyway. If using the boxes I'll take any of my fave or more special lamps. I have insured shelf queen's but most of mine are burners.

I've found that a 16" size plastic tool box, without the lift out tray, is a good fit for a Tilley Guardsman, with enough space for spirit can, matches, spare mantles e.t.c. Should fit most other Tilleys, Bialaddins and Vapaluxes as well.
An old tip used by many on the forum is to spray mantles liberally with hairspray to protect them in transit; it will flash off on first lighting

Thanks Steerpike - will look into toolbox and I could glue some soft foam in supportive places. I dint know about the hairspray trick - will have to try that :)

No need for the "as used by stylists" stuff, cheap and cheerful will do the job, in fact any clear lacquer will. Just remember to not get too near the mantle and use short bursts.
