    It is with great sadness I present the last Austramax that could be purchased from TW Sands of Melbourne.
    Pending the sudden closure of the Austramax factory this lantern is the last one left.

    I understand Austramax themselves do not have any more stocks of lanterns.

    Naturally this lantern will be a unfired display item only. In finality pay tribute to Mr Faiman and his family for keeping the Austramax factory in operation for so long against ever increasing difficulties.

    There goes my hopes of ever finding an Austramax that's made in an operating factory too.

    Well done.

    I have one NIB I bought a few years ago. I kept it just in case this day came. It will never be lit while it’s in my possession.

    The auction of the Austramax factory equipment (quite a large amount non-lamp machinery, lathes, etc) was yesterday. A few quiet tears shed, I imagine.

    This is true and I think they have not had new ones for longer than this year.

    by the way congrats on getting the last Sands Austramax; something to talk about one day.

    Thanks everyone for the comments on this sad occassion. Certainly the passing of a era and this lantern will be a treasure for as long as I am about.

    @tretrop

    The Austramax business, including the lamp production, has been wound up.

    The factory machinery (Austramax lamps were a very small part of their business) was sold at auction last week.

    Yes, I knew it was small, I ordered a batch from them 2 years ago to sell in Sweden and was hoping to place a new order. But I understand that that will not be possible

    If you are interested, one of the last production runs of the Astramax lanterns can be found in Sweden (!) Worldwide shipping is offered.

    @tretrop that the factory has closed and the machinery sold off is my information.

    Well, if there is a batch of Austramax's over in Sweden then there is a opportunity for collectors to get one while the going is good.

    Good luck, a shiny new Austramax would be a worthy addition to a collection.

    Sad. I remember once many years ago going to the shop/factory. lovely 'old-gen' experience.
