Power went out at about 1pm came back on briefly at 8pm, off again but seems to have steadied now. A good chance to get some Tilley lamps lit and water boiled on the Tilley stove for a cuppie. Neighbour lost his tallest tree. Still, we were lucky compared to a lot of people in Scotland.

    That's true.
There was a freezing cold flying gale during the daylight hours and it was difficult to get around outside, but I was well wrapped up, once it was dark then the wind speed increased greatly.
The power went off here at about 1.25 am., and it came on again at about 11 am., for a while and then it went off again until about 4.10 pm., hopefully it will stay on now, but I'm keeping the Tilley going for a while just in case and it's heat is very welcome as the storage heaters have not had much of a charge.

It's just started snowing here on the west coast and the wind is getting up. No power cuts yet but there's still time. It's supposed to really get going at around 3pm.

Hello Colin, ( ColinG) yes, it's essential to have back ups and as well as pressure lamps and stoves and heaters I also have a two burner Butane Campingaz stove which I found at my local recycling centre, I had to change the proprietary regulator for a standard Calor gas regulator for obvious reasons; the stove currently works well and I'm glad to have it, the image below shows the model of stove which I have mentioned.

Well good luck all you people north of the border. We have gale warnings for the south coast - but it won't be the first one this week. We have not seen proper snow here in Brighton since 2012

Today, I got well wrapped up again and went to the garden and tidied up the
damage which the storms had caused to the wooden sides of a raised veg., bed, there is still plenty of snow on the highest hills and it was a cold brisk day but it was refreshing.:thumbup:

Thanks and hopefully your gale will not be to bad.

We're usually well stocked up here on the west coast because you never know what will happen. Our kids tried to drive home on 27th, but fallen trees and floods blocked all the routes through Fort William so they came back for an extra day! Still had plenty of Christmas food left!
