Here is a nice example of a unic no 7 i believe. came to me for fettling as a non runner previously electrified lamp the base had been drilled for wiring and the fuel supply pipe had been removed to run the wire to the bulb I decided to remove the baseplate and put a 1mm steel plate in it as it had many rust holes and a couple of small cracks in the tank side above the join. After tinning the new steel base i soldered the new bottom in A new pipe was made to supply the fuel from the tank to the burner tap Burner was cleaned and fixed tho it was just clean the filter and a new pricker installing. i tested the tank with pressure all seemed well but decided to put a POR15 liner in it to future proof it somewhat from leaks. I have only just started using this stuff always soldered any leaks but i still solder leaks and the use a liner on these petrol lamps. I really like this lamp nice size lots of nice details cheers pete
@pete sav Another fettling triumph Pete. The fuel pickup pipe would have been soldered in place before the base pan was attached, so there’s a photo missing in the sequence I suppose? You’d then need to ensure that the lower end of the pickup was sufficiently above the base pan plus the eventual thickness of the POR-15. John
@presscall Hi john the fuel pickup on most if not all the french lamps is different to what we normally see here. a 5mm pipe goes from the bottom of the tank into the upright handle bit soldered at the bottom. this in turn inside the handle is soldered into 2mm pipe that runs up then thro the Y piece thro the arm to the stopcock ferrule compression joint as in this picture of another arm here cheers pete
