Can anyone please advise a good, available colour of aerosol spray paint, as close to Tilley’s factory colour as possible? Rover Arum White has been mentioned, but this looks a bit “too white” compared with the existing paint. Many thanks, Phil
Hi @Phil Harris I found this on a search I get what you mean about the ‘whiteness’ of the Arum White... perhaps it ages to a cream? hope it helps a bit cheers
Hi PB and many thanks. I wasn’t shown that post when I searched to Forum earlier. Sadly, Dupli-Color Bahama Beige aerosol doesn’t seem to be readily available in the UK any longer. The only listings I can find are in Australia. Phil
I don't know where this "Arum White" came from. The colour is Plastikote Arran Beige and is correct or near enough. The original Tilley paint darkens with age so the Arran does look too white compared with original examples. ::Neil::
Several posters on this Forum over a period of some years have claimed Arum White to be the best match for “Tilley Cream”. Plastikote Arran Beige it is! Thanks, Neil, much appreciated. Phil
Thanks Colin, I’ll keep that in mind, as at present I am struggling to find Plastikote Arran Beige on sale anywhere. It might be a case of taking the lamp into a well-stocked DIY or paint shop and picking what looks closest. Thanks again, Phil
That would be a good idea but... the colour on the can lid does not necessarily equate to the finished colour. I used another cream coloured paint but I can't find which one... it might have even been a cheap, generic cream rattle can from a hardware store. Whichever one you decide on, a top coat of fuel resistant lacquer is a must. I've watched too many shiny paint finishes melt and run down the tank because I didn't forgot or thought it wouldn't matter!
This is the Rustoleum I used on my Coleman 169k but it looked very good on my Tilley table lamp as well.
It does look absolutely superb, Colin! And thanks for the tip about the fuel-resistant lacquer, too. I rarely re-spray lamp founts, and got away with it on the PL53 that I did previously. Thanks again, Phil
