Hi all, This is a Best Light Co. gravity Student/Stand lamp from around 1905. Clearmont Best was granted a patent in June 18th 1901, for this overhead "match lighting" generator burner. You can see the patent date in the burner casting. I think this lamp was produced and sold throughout the first decade of 1900, and probably also into the 1910,s. All brass fixture and in oxidized copper (Japanned) finish ! As most of these types of US lamps it uses gasoline as fuel and is said to give 100 CP light output. This lamp was generously given to me by @Fred Smith (thanks Fred), and comes originally from the collection of the late Fil Graff (former Secretary of The International Guild of Lamp Researchers). /Conny Patent 1901 and catalouge image ...... Best gravity lamp together with contemporary US lamp makers Sun Vapor and Street Light Co. and Standard Gas Lamp Co. .......................
Hi Conny C, Your post is exactly what I needed, just started cleaning on your lamps big sister, it's a harp style pendant, seen here.
Hi Conny, I congratulate you on this lamp. I really like the aesthetics of it. The finish is very pleasant. Take care of yourself. Best regards, Titoo.
