Hi all. My birthday lantern has just popped up on ...bay. It’s a Coleman 220f. I know nothing about them, just after some feedback. Were they a good model? I’m in Australia so postage is horrendous. Happy to pay it, but only if it’s worth it. Would be a user by the way, not a display item.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a few, good runners. 220's are everywhere here in the states and you can have them for dirt cheap. International shipping $uks, I am following some items on the Bay from Cassie sellers but as always shipping is extremely horrendous. Glad you've found your B-Day lantern, I am still on the search for mine.

    I assume you mean eBay?:-k
The 220 lanterns are good users in my opinion. My go-to lantern is actually a 220E, and I use it very often.
Good light, reliable and almost instantaneous light which is good especially when you have a power cut.

I too like the 220 range. I have just finished fettling a 220C, post to come soon, and I also run a 220J.
The 220 series seem to be reliable lamp workhorses.

My just fettled 220C (fettling post to come

I have 3x 220s and I wasn't really trying very hard! They're good runners and from the photo the one you've found looks to be in pretty good condition.

International shipping is a royal pain in the ass but at least you'll get a good runner if you do go for it. If you do decide to buy it search this site for information about carriers and how to avoid potential problems shipping 'dangerous' goods.

Very good lantern. I have quite a number of both Coleman 220 and 228 "B" models. Date from June 1930 thru Aug 1939. The B is my favorite model. In my humble opinion these were the best of the 220/228. However, what you're looking at is not bad and will work just fine, and after all, it's your birthday lantern!!:thumbup:

I have a collection of Coleman covering all 220/228 B-K an F is excellent reliable lantern and simple to service if needed. Any questions I’d be glad to advise. These are a couple of U.S. built F models.

Wasn't the 220F the most manufactured and arguably most successful model in Coleman's history?

I have a 1964 Model 220F in the metal carrying case never used. Who would I reach out to determine the value. This lantern and carrying case was from my grandfather and he passed away before using, still in the box (opened).

Thank I apologize for my question, there are multiple grandkids and I didn’t want to assume the value. I’m keeping them myself because they were my grandfather’s but you know how families are when someone passes.
Once again thank you and I will not post questions like this.

Got a 220E coming to me from the bay that I can't wait to tear down and clean up. I even have the special tool for fuel valve to remove it easier. This will be my second one haha..1955 I think Screenshot_20240225_050918_eBay.jpg

If you remove the valve from the fount, be sure you leave the tip cleaner and the gland nut installed otherwise you run a high risk of deforming the threaded section of the valve where those go and ruining the valve.

@Frankarooney the 220F lantern you saw on eBay is the Canadian made version. It was only made for a short period of time in the early 1970s.

They’re not common in Canada. It seems they’re more common in the British Columbia area of Canada (where I live). I’ve owned 6 of these in total over the years. Other collectors in Ontario or Quebec have never seen on in person.
