Coleman 236 Major. Came without globe and bail. Globe is a unmarked replacement from the US, and the bail borrowed from a 237 while a replacement is sort.

Running a 500CP Coleman 1111 Gold Top mantle:

That instruction plate does not look like a factory installed item, but a very nice addition to the lantern.

@Blueflame I think you are correct. It is fixed by self tapping screws to the collar. It is the first one of these instruction plates I've seen.

Very nice looking lantern. The vent is really good for it’s age.

    Well done on your fettle.
I like this lantern, it’s in good condition for a lantern made in 1938. I suspect that the instructions mounted on the collar are an early addition, however, I think that they should remain as they’re part of the lantern’s history.
    Enjoy
    Pete

Somebody went to a lot of effort/expense getting that plate made up. Definitely needs to stay with its soulmate!

Very nice condition for this earlier production of the "Major'. I also thought it was only in recent years we have to state the obvious on everything for legal reasons. Love the first line of the plaque. Seems back then the obvious had to be stated too.

Seems likely. The 'Petrol' word being used instead of 'Gasoline'.
