Haven't been contributing here for a while, lot of excuses... At least, here is something not seen often: Last week, we had an arrangement in the forest, including staying out in a shelter. For that occasion we bought six unused Petromax 828 Super rapid from a surplus store. The lamps ar ex-army, probably from the 60-es, but performed great, without any trouble, except for one. The last one leaked from all joints, apparently it hadn't been checked thoroughly from the factory. 1346959485-IMAG0350.jpg

Wow, fantastic. I wish I could find one of those but I don't think they are hanging around in surplus stores in the UK!

You'd be surprised - a place I occasionally go to in Darlington had about a dozen unlit civil defence Radius 119s for sale one time I called...

    The lamps were found here:

I would think that they still got plenty. We opted for the original "max", old stock but made in Germany, since they are going to be used under all conditions by all kind of users. This is also the reason why we went for the "Super Rapid" with its quick-starter..
Below, you'll see a pic of "The one that got away", I was rather surprised that all joins an unions were only finger tightened... Otherwise, the lamp is in excelent condition. This particular lamp will undergo severe surgery during this week-end. Under more normal circumstances, I personally would not go for lamps from a wholesale supplier, I like to roam around flee-markets and the like. I also have an agreement wit a local scrapyard, he sorts out the lamps he find, no matter the condition. Since he sells by the weight, prices are rather low  unfortunately, the glass is often broken.

    best wishes
    Ben

Hi Ben, looked at the link and my lack of other languages left me uneducated. What would one of those cost me including postage to England? Steve.
