Gents, I am cleaning and rebuilding a generator for my 242C Coleman lantern. During disassembly, I found a tiny brass filter screen at the top of the spring. It is somewhat mangled. I'm wondering if it is a replaceable item or whether I should omitted it from the rebuild. Thanks, Gene B

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what's going on with the link. When I click on it, I get a message that says that I don't have permission to view it. What am I doing wrong?
If they are damaged I leave them out. A few years later and lanterns still work and I am yet still walking the earth bathed in white light
Hi @Gene B I think that is because you may need to be a subscriber to view items in the Reference Library? Here’s a screenshot* of one of the pages.. I think the little mesh screen is visible regards pb *thanks to @Tony Press
You don't really need the filter screen these days. These mesh screens were meant to prevent dirt in the "less-than-reasonably clean" fuel in the past from finding its way to the jet/gas tip orifice. Yes, it is replaceable if you really want to. However, most people find it difficult to insert these screens properly in a way like Coleman did in the originals. Consequently, they have resulted in many ruined cleaning needles.
I found the same thing, so I emailed Frank Bebb of Old Town Coleman about it, he said it was to filter the fuel, but it wasn't necessary, so I left it out and the generator worked fine
