Afraid to ask but I have looked at a couple related threads and can't find what I need. I finally found my self a Petromax Rapid 829/500cp Super , and cant figure out the date. Help Please , don't know if this is the real deal or a good knock off~~~ all the stamped text seems to be like the ones I found here with small exceptions, the fount lower left of the large logo just says Germany- not Made in Germany , the vent cap just says "Original Petromax" with no other text,. the globe says SCHOTT SUPRAX made in Germany , and Petromax with a logo on the other side, the valve knob and pump knob are blue plastic. There is a serial number on the bottom , but does not seem to relate to the other dating I have seen , the number is 913549, it came with the large round shade~~~~ any one know what the date could be?? and is this the real deal or did I get snookered?? it is in excellent condition and looks once or twice fired--thanks in advance .
Hi Bruce, How many rays on the sun logo ? If 10 it's an original Petromax If 11 it's a chinese clone.
Answer:- snookered, if you were actually hoping for the real deal. Anyway, if the condition is fine, not leaking and functionally working, then it isn't too much to fret about.
well I bough it and a Wenzel for 70 bucks and flipped the Wenzel for 75 to guy who knew what it was -- so not out any money! LOL
Definitely Chinese made petromax, the 6 digit no on the bottom is some sort of serial no and not a date code, the earlier petromax lamps made in Portugal did have a 4 digit date code on the bottom.
