Hi I just fixed a Swedish made 1082 but I'm used to petromax. Can any one tell me how to start the 1082 as I'm used to the open close starter vent on petromax not one on the 1082
Yes sorry it's a primus 1082. I'm used to petromax which has an extra flip switch to ignite once pressured. Not on a primus , how do I start the 1082
Thanks but how is this done? Sorry to sound totally dumb. Is it possible there is a manuel online somewhere.
Hi @Terry y and welcome! Methylated Spirit or denatured alcohol is used to preheat. there should be a dish inside the glass either resting on the base or the base has a concave part which you fill with the meths, then light with a match A bit before the flames die down you make sure the needle is down then pump some air in.. 15 - 20 pumps.. the mantle should light from the burning alcohol and start to glow.. wait a bit then as it warms up you can introduce more air ..and so on edit: if you get a ‘flare-up’ with yellow flames then de-pressurise and pre-heat again.. Getting the meths to where you need it can be tricky so you may need to find, buy or make your own meths bottle The original ones were similar to this but there are some suitable ones available online.. i searched for sewing machine bottle hope this helps regards pb edit : forgot to add here is the larger filling/lighting hole where you introduce the fuel to the alcohol tray Thanks to Tom Pedersen
@Terry y welcome. If you had been familiar with the basic Petromax without that open/close starter, such as a Petromax 826, 821, etc., then you'd be quite comfortable with starting up the Primus 1082 as well. If I'm not wrong, the Petromax that you mentioned in your first post might be one with a 'rapid preheater torch'. Such as those found on the Petromax 827, 828 or 829. Other members had already provided the necessary guidance. In any case, you should also quite easily find the operating instructions for the basic Petromax(826, etc) on the internet. The method is applicable to a Primus 1082 as well.
@Terry y There are instruction manuals for Primus lanterns and lamps in the Reference Library. You will need to subscribe to get access to the library. Best regards Tony
