Hi fellas, I’ve had this HKP 3 for a long time in my to do pile so I set about getting it done.

it all breaks down easily enough except the dreaded NRV. Like a lot of lanterns the NVR wouldn’t budge, landed up stripping the square head.

I wanted to get it out regardless as this lantern has some similarities to the v2.

The collar has the small perforated holes, the hood screw cap is in two parts but looks as 1, the tank looks v2 shape, the pricker leaver assembly looks v1 and v2. The fuel cap seal was made of cork.

    Anyway on wit the job.

the air pump tube is wetted out to get to the NRV. Even with better access to it it took sme work to get it out. Heat and quench, no, eventually I cut the bottom off, drilled it out to suit an easy out and with some force I got it to budge. It’s out. IMG_2894.jpeg

I gave everything an ultrasonic bath and cleaned up everything.

i re placed the pump tube re soldered in place.

most parts are early v3,the burner assembly with the classic loop , the generator, but the came on the pricker is round. The frame plate attaches to the burner air tubed wit the smaller round threaded ring and secured by the hex nut underneath,

it has gone back together and looks great and clean .

pressure tests were all good no air leaks.

this is a collar from v2 with badge to show similarities .
    And now the money shot

Thanks for the detail, @Darryl Durdin.

I think the round cam for the pricker mechanism is the oldest, but I'm not certain.

Also, keep your eyes open for a Handi with a steel tank.

    Cheers

    Tony

@Tony Press , hi there, I will keep an eye out, I’ll probably have to go check all my Handi as I won’t be able to sleep tonight. All so the bale was is original to this lantern,

Nice lantern. I have never seen an Australian lantern or stove in South Africa. I have an old torque wrench Made in Australia and that about all I have seen or come across.

I congratulate you Darryl, you always do serious work.
This restoration is impressive for a perfect result.
This lantern is interesting especially the air fuel mixture tube in the shape of a swan neck.

    Regards,
    Titoo.

Just for info, this is most likely the first or second variation of the KeroPet. That puts it in the 1940 to 1947 time frame.

To narrow it down a bit more, can you tell me if there is a patent number on the burner casting and where is it, and what shape is the hole in the top of the hood?

    IMG_2985.jpeg Hello @Nils Stephenson
How have you been, thanks for the interest in my lantern. I received this lantern from the late Vic Tipman, he said it was an early type 3.
I’ve pictured the the hood cap is a two part cap. The hood has a round hole , there is a patent number and a letter F I think on the other side.
The pricker leaver has an early set up like the swiftlite and the collar has the smaller holes. The bale is original to the lantern. IMG_2986.jpeg IMG_2987.jpeg IMG_2988.jpeg IMG_2989.jpeg IMG_2990.jpeg IMG_2991.jpeg
It could be a case of someone just put a few bits together to make it work but it is still very cool

Second variation so around 1945 to 1947.
