Somewhere (note, somewhere!) I've got a box of assorted mantles for wickie lamps. If I ever find it again, I'll let you know. I didn't think they were that expensive though...
Hello Chris, my Famos 120 is fitted with a proper Famos 120 mantle, i bought 2 boxed mantles at a local auction, but it took 10 years for those to turn up and i have not found any more so far and i would not pay the outrageous prices which they fetch on Ebay either. The Famos 120 does have a good light output, but it really goes through paraffin, Jeff.
Thanks david... To be honest a dead mantle would be good enough, I just need the frame as I can then dismntle aladdin mantles and hang them in place. Unfortunately when people do find mantles they tend not to light them so even dead ones are hard to come by.
My super speed came with a mantle frame on it but I'm not sure where it is. I haven't binned it so it's around somewhere. Seeing as I've got a couple of new mantles for it and the chimney on mine is cracked anyway, I won't be lighting it, so if I can find it out you are welcome to see if you can fix something up with it. I'll let you know when it pokes it's head up amongst the junk.
I'm currently sitting in my study typing by the light of an Aladdin Model 12 with the English style font..
I think the shade on the Famos 120 on the first page is not original. But all 3 here look like Famos shades. Pic from Famos catalogue:
Beacon (Aladdin copy) was sold with an adapter for european tank threads. Picture of version made for swedish lamp dealer. Mostly it was the other way - ie european burners were made to fit US fonts like Rayo/Hugo Schneider Conia
Thank you for bumping your old post. Otherwise I would not have seen this catalog page. The appearance of what I believe to be an American shade in a European catalogs fascinates me! I have seen them together in the Veritas catalog reprint but I believe this is different. If you ever get a chance to compare a Famos 35307 and 35308 side by side take some time to look closely. Thank you! Kevin
By the Yard-6" Glass RED BUGLE Bead Beaded Fringe Lamp Costume Trim | eBay There's a lot of colors and lengths/widths!
Here are two humble wick lamps which I fettled, the burner and the reducer ring/adaptor which I used on the brass tank had been in my parts box for over 20 years as had the burner on the glass lamp, I obtained several unused old stock burners, some of which had fine threads and others had coarse threads and these two burners are the last of the batch.
Here is a small single wick oil lamp which has a milk glass tank, the chimney is not the correct one, hopefully a correct chimney will turn up through time.
Here is a tall duplex lamp which I put together today and the shade is a modern one, as are the burner and the chimney, but those are the parts which I had in storage, this type of lamp was often placed on a sideboard.
Here is a shorter duplex lamp which I also put together today, I have two matching clear tanks and they are now used, the burner and the globe support are modern as are the globe and chimney, but I'm making use of what I have in storage.
Here is another duplex lamp, this one has a ceramic base, the burner and chimney and globe are modern.
Here is one of my Aladdin lamps that is on a stand, not sure about any information though as I don't know what to look for. Also I don't believe it's the correct shade, buts it's better than nothing. I'm sure you experts will know. The photos are not the best, and sorry but, I'm not moving it. Thanks.
That’s a very nice FS @Buggerlugs. Here are my only Aladdins, two Crown Devon vase lamps and two Model 11, one made in Chicago with the melon shade, the other made in London.
