    @MYN

    Klean Heat or Mineral Spirits have stricter carbon chain counts, meaning the burns are way more consistent and clean. Less chance of pyrolysis or "scorching" of fuels due to longer chains that don't break down and deposit in your vaporizer/generator.

    Yes @Dashwood
    There are negligible aromatics, sulphur and mercaptan contents as well.
    ***Don't be surprised but 1-k kero and jet fuels can still contain up to 25% aromatics.
    Klean Strip's odorless mineral spirit has a lower proportion of heavier hydrocarbons as compared to regular kerosene.
    So for Klean Strip's odorless, like CF, it is almost entirely aliphatics, except somewhat heavier and less volatile or flammable.

    I finally have it running properly.

    I left the original lower part of the carburetor on, and the new upper part with the Preston loops has very slightly different threads. It threaded in fine but needs a heavier hand.

    The mantle is hard to stare at during the day, it will be interesting to light it again tonight.

    Thanks everyone for all your help.

    Congratulations @Gilbert

    Where did you source out the Petromax upper vaporizer part from? Does it come with a new jet as well?
    I suppose we had all anticipated with near-certainty and were expecting that a Preston loop would get the more recent problem of your Petromax 829B sorted out.
    It would naturally appear brighter at night :thumbup:

    Nevertheless, it would, in my humble opinion, be particularly desirable, if you can make the 829B to function flawlessly with the original straight generator without having to resort to further increasing the percentages of highly volatile fuels(CF/White gas/gasolines). :D :)
    As I have suggested earlier, you can use Klean Strip Odorless Mineral Spirits as substitute for kerosene. It is certainly easier to get all of it to completely vaporize, even when compared to a premium 1-k kerosene.
    Their flashpoints are quite close to each other.

    A typical 1-k kerosene has the following boiling point range:
    Initial B.P: ~134°C or ~274°F.
    Final B.P.: ~294°C or ~562°F.

    KleanStrip Odorless Mineral Spirits:
    Initial B.P.: ~159°C or 318°F.
    Final B.P."~179°C or 354°F.

    I consider the above a huge difference.
    Anyhow that is just my sincere suggestion. I would certainly keep the straight gen on an 829B :):thumbup:

    ***Don't use Klean Strip's 'Green' Odorless Mineral Spirirts for the above.
    It is a somewhat milky liquid mixture and not the same thing as their regular odorless product, which clear and colourless.

    I got the parts from imperial lighting here in the US. I got the whole upper and lower assembly along with the internals, jet and needle. They are the standard Chinese Petromax parts.

    It would be nice to get the original carburetor working with kerosene, but I'd rather have a lantern that isn't fussy. I'm pleased with it.

    Glad to see everything is working! Perhaps it's time for you to venture out and find oddballs to add to your collection!

    You said you are familiar with working on Coleman's?

    Perhaps you wonder what will happen when you cross a petromax that has taken some Coleman designs? :shock:

    Glad to hear you are pleased with the lantern as it is now, Gilbert.
    The Work Horse Brand in Dashwood's photos isn't that common as others. Would be nice to have one of those.
    If you're already familiar with CF, I'd guess you'd have at least a Coleman lantern/lamp as well :)

    That's an interesting lantern. Does it have positive shut off? I saw one for sale on ebay.

    @Gilbert

    It does! But only at the fuel control. The pump is still an NRV sadly.
