I just secured a number of model 27 hollow wires on ebay. the description said two were painted black, so I assumed some one painted them to hid rusty nasty surfaces---- I was wrong!!! when I removed the paint on one the nickel plate was pristine, it was painted when new!!!-- I was befuddled why would any one pant a brand new lamp???

Then I remembered there is a sect of Amish Folk who eschew anything gaudy and showy and they will paint any chromed or bright surface black-- ~~ these did come from Amish country so I am assuming t hats what happened--- a great find--

Good post! It's helpful to see the chain they came with.

A lucky find. Probably thanks to the Amish folks for keeping it plain, simple and non-showy.
It'd never look as pristine, had they wanted it to look attractive and flashy earlier.
Pretty things usually don't seem to last very long.
