Hi I just restored a Tilley now this 305.

I have a problem: The pump is really hard to pump down. It appears to work and does build pressure but is tough to push right down.

    1. any ideas to solve this?

    2. how do I remove it if I have to? Is there a video anywhere I can be pointed to please?

    Thanks so much.

Regards all - great website I have to say!

Could be the non-return valve at the bottom of the pump tube is sticking- use a wide flat screwdriver down the pump tube to unscrew it. Sometimes even when fully unscrewed they won't shake out, in which case go in through the filler hole with your screwdriver, table knife or WHY and push the end of the valve up the pump to loosen it. When it's out unscrew the small end to get to the seal- if you can't unscrew it with fingers grip the small end in a drill chuck and apply screwdriver to the other end. Change the little rubber "pip" in the brass carrier, reassemble and test.
