I was lucky enough to be able to acquire this example from a New Zealand collector at a very fair price. It works very well indeed, starts easily, runs steadily and is quite bright. This one has the original "Made in England" globe. The enamel upper vent is near perfect but the lower vent must have been a bit tatty hence the VHT silver paint (which is good because it has protected it from any further rust). I would like to strip off the VHT and re-plate at some stage. Thanks to the previous owner for looking after this great lantern.
Very interesting lantern! Neil McRae (@Mackburner) has information on the London operations of "Sun Flame" in his Pressure Lamp Catalogue. Best regards Tony
I am new to this forum. If there is a reason for removing this post from current threads I would like to know please.
Welcome, David. And thanks for the posting of this lantern. I have suggested to the Moderators that it be moved to the appropriate part of the Reference Galley, as it is such a good example. Best regards Tony
Nice find of a quite uncommon lamp. This will be from the 1950s and made in the UK by Falk Stadelmann & Co. Part of the Marshal Plan, they were in London from 1951 to 1958 with production likely in Birmingham. Not a common find as most were exported to Empire countries or at least that was the plan but so few are known so I suspect numbers were low due to the stiff competition from the likes of Tilley and Coleman. The English marked globe is probably rarer than the lamp. ::Neil::
