    First of all I appreciate this forum. I just wanted to ask about one of the Coleman lanterns I have picked up at auction. It's a quick lite and I'm wondering if it might be a 327. It has an external pump tube and I seem to be missing the pump unit and cap? Am I correct on that and is a very difficult to find those? I would like to make it complete. Near the patent date it's marked 1919 and it also has a British patent.
    Thanks very much for any help (corrections) or identification.
    Chuck

    It's an L427 made 1924/5 to 1927. The model continued but after 1927 has a green enamel hood cap. Coleman made huge quantities of them and survivors are reasonably common in the US so parts should be easy enough. They nearly always restore well to function if the tank is OK and rust free. I suggest you talk with the US Coleman collectors on www.colemancollectorsforum.com ::Neil::

    Thank you very very much. I really appreciate that specific information and I'll definitely follow up on parts with that other forum.
    I also found this old quick lite Coleman (patent date 1929) in its original homemade box at the same auction. That auction really got me hooked on collecting these old Coleman's. IMG_20240803_172259570_HDR.jpg

    Oh I looked right past that you were telling me what model it was in your reply.
    Thanks very much for that information.

    That last is not a Quick-Lite. It has a pricker control which makes it an Instant Lite so with the wide hood is a model 228 of some persuasion. Maybe a nice 228B from the 1930s but it's hard to tell without a few more pictures 'cos they run from 228A to 228D with that collar. ::Neil::

    Yeah thanks for adding that. I had found that also when I got the base cleaned up. Looks like a model 220 #3 Instant lite. (See picture) Looking on a Coleman data base site it looks like it dates to 1929 if it's a # 3.

    Chuck. It can't be a 220 as they have a vertical control valve on a slight slant. Marked 220 in the base maybe but it's a 228B from the 1930s and the #3 is the month part of the date stamp. There will be another number opposite the 3 for the year. 220B has a narrow hood so this with a wide hood is a 228B. This is from a 1936 dealers catalogue which shows the full range of gasoline lanterns of the period. It's actually a great find in that condition. ::Neil::

    Thanks for that information. I really appreciate it. Definitely a 228b. The other number besides the three is a seven. So perhaps made March of 1937? Thanks for sending that image from the catalog.

    Yes March 1937 and one of the classic desireables for most Coleman collectors. ::Neil::

    //////////::::::::…………
    This 228B from the image of the baseplate
    although is not complete shows
    the “Instant Lite” and “220B” (even on all 228B) stamps that ran from 1930-1934 only.
    The date stamp “3” on the left and “7” on the right indicates July 1933.

    Is there a number (or numbers) stamped under/near the Coleman logo on the side of the tank as well as underneath?

    @Chuck Ketterhagen

    Is that a “5” the arrow is pointing to?

    And can you photograph the “1” you refer to above that is “ right below the S in USA”, please.

    Cheers

    Oh sorry. I looked at the wrong lantern. Yes the number five is on my L427. And the number one is on my 228b lantern.
