ive been given a 1944 agm lantern. the only problem is the nrv seems stuck and when i try to pump it the air blows back out of the hole in pump handle. ive tried to soak the nrv in wd40 but it seems very sticky. Has anyone taken out one of these nrvs? they seem similar to coleman. any help appreciated as im not that familiar with agm lanterns.
Yes, I have and they are indeed very similar to Coleman N.R.V.s. i.e. a ball bearing as a check valve and a needle valve as a positive shut-off. Perhaps you could try acetone or some other solvent to dissolve the varnish-like fuel residues which are causing the ball bearing to stick.
I seem to have got to the stage either by accident or design where I can pump air into the tank. My next problem seems to be i can't keep it in there by turning the pump handle. Could the nrv be worn so it doesn't close??
If it is the same as a coleman it will unscrew the pump rod and you can inspect the taper on the end where it fits into the NRV. Overtightening leads to deformation.
@swiss-paul these pumps are setup a little different than a Coleman. The end of the pump shaft is basically a slotted screw driver. You have to push down to turn the air stem of the check valve. Whereas on a Coleman you can tighten/loosen the air stem anywhere in the pumps travel.
Is the end of the pump missing something that turns the nrv? Are all pumps and nrvs the same for agm lamps?
Then you will need the AGM pump to match. I cannot find my photos at this time, but when I get to work I can grab some.
