Hi guys, I crack my Primus 1001 globe and I can’t find a replacement online. I was running it for awhile without a mantle then suddenly I heard a loud snapping sound. I will keep this on my high priority note that one should not run pressure lamp with a globe on. Anyway, what’s the quick remedy and tips? I was thinking of I rolling a chicken wire mesh as a substitute for the globe or that won’t do? I was also thinking of making my own mica globe but don’t know where to get a high temp glass. Thank you in advance, Eleazar
It’s hard to fix Eleazar, you can use something like the glue which is heat resistant to maintain it as best as you can.
Sorry to hear that Eleazar. Perhaps ebay for a replacement?:- Glass Globe borosilicate Primus 1001 for Reproduction Replacement Part | eBay Otherwise, if it is still in one piece, you can probably leave it as is and use it like you normally do. Some folks have success with using Superglue to fill up the cracks on such globes. Some cynoacrylate types have sufficiently high temperature ratings for the purpose, such as this one:- Permabond 922
One should never run a mantle lantern WITHOUT a mantle and a globe. The mantle and glass are both essential parts of a lantern. When the globe is original and old you should never use is with/in a burning lantern.
On this subject of cracked glass has anyone tried Uv resin glue for glass Type the above into ebay to find the stuff reckon it might be worth trying if a new globe is not available Cheers pete
