I have spent a couple of hours researching this, but I am still confused !!
I got the lamp in the picture very cheaply from a house clearance store.
Some new seals, a polish and a new mantle and away it went :)

I have seen some 300X with a hood that has lots of ventilation holes around the periphery, are they the earlier ones ?
    Is mine a 60's one ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks PB, I reckon that clarifies it for me as to roughly what year / model

It cost me £6 from a huge house clearance type place.
The only thing it needed was a filler cap seal, I used a Vitron "O" ring I had in my bits box that fits just fine, stripping it down (a bit) and a couple of hours of (gentle) polishing.
Currently running on a Tilley mantle, but I have just ordered a couple of proper V42 from Base Camp.

I think you got a real bargain there, very nice.
