I mentioned the other day my belief that the outside holes in the Tilley FL6 reflectors for the breather tubes are differently arranged on the samples I have. Thought some photos would help. The 1937 elongated hole is aligned 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock. The later model FL6 reflectors that I have seen seem to be aligned 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Here is what I mean: 1937 Model FL6 The later model FL6 (circa 1943-1955) Another later model (1938 onwards) that I have seen. Not sure what to make of it!
@Sedgman Howdy, are you sure the one with the oval holes is not a Kayen ???? @Anthony will know more.
The Kayen reflectors are wider at the side than Tilley and the Kayen holes seem to be much larger that what Iain is showing. Is your the one on the left or right Iain ??
Hi @MarkO, a good point re Kayen as I had noted an @Anthony old gallery post pointing out Kayen differences. I only have Tilley with the rounded latch and riveted chimney. This all should be Tilley. I did note that Tilley were more rounded but even mine are all slightly elongated though the 1937 more so (22.3 mm by 27.3 mm). @Anthony I will double check the glass case edges tomorrow.
@Anthony - All look like the one on the right in your photo. I measured them at the small rise on the edge of the reflector at about 10 mm each. The 1937 FL6 came from a shop and I presume the reflector is original. A photo of the Tilley like latch from the 1937 unit is attached. Thanks
