Hello all, I haven't really had the time to take photos of my previous road trip beauty's. So we went on another road trip yesterday and I have combined the lamps from both trips together in this post. We travelled from town to town on both trips, the total distance from both road trips was about 800km or more. A couple of lamps were held for me, as I put a deposit on them, so I knew we weren't coming home empty handed. I didn't expect to be coming home with 10 lamps in total, 9 are Tilley lamps and one is a Kayen Kopsen AP2 lamp (copper fount). Without exaggerating I believe that in total, we left behind between 50 to 60 lamps, in one shop alone this fellow had at least 25 Tilley and Kayen lamps mainly X246 models, and that's not counting his Coleman lamps. Now you my ask why I left so many of these lamps behind? Well the main reason why: Is I'm getting more and more fussy about which lamps to buy or add to my collection. My collection is getting out of control, as I suppose other members have the same problem, so now I have to be tougher. I can be fussy as I have enough of certain models and I'm truly running out of room. Hopefully I haven't gone on too long and bored you with my story. So here is what we got. Tilley R1A dated December 1960. R1 wooden handle. R1 later style steel handle. BR49 1954 -1957 TL106 Pork Pie table lamp 1945-49 TL146 Pork Pie table lamp PL53 post 1945 EX100 X246A June 1962 (In Australia any X246 models with brown hoods, are in my opinion very hard to find). And last but least a Kayen AP2 copper fount. Here are some photos, the last photo is trying to show the copper underneath, and maybe a bit hard to see the copper. Thanks for looking, I did also come home with another lamp, but that's for another time as I'm working on it at the moment. Regards Brian.
You never cease to amaze me Brian but it only goes to show they are still out there if you can ferret them out. What an amazing haul.
Thanks mate, I was very lucky as I only had two original Tilley lamp shades, the same colour as these ones are, in my collection, now I have four.
Another great haul. 800km isn't a short distance. That's real enthusiasm. You just know where to find those rare ones. Probably time to expand your space too.
@MYN Thanks mate. We don't mind the travelling, besides it gets you away from the city, and we don't mind the travelling, looking through the second hand shops, sightseeing, picnics, or even a counter lunch, also enjoying the countryside. Sometimes we even stay in accommodation and make a weekend out of it, other times we come home, and just enjoy the day out, it's lots of fun. As for more space I don't think that's possible, I got lamps in just about every room, and we have a small house, plus one shed is full, the other shed is where we spray paint, so not a good idea to put lamps in there. That only leaves the garage, which is out of the question for reasons which I rather not say. I have even got some hanging outside, and even in the ceiling. So for now fussy it is. Regards Brian.
