@ton, yes, it was with such appreciative envy that my search for such a lamp began and I was very lucky. Here is the story about this lamp. Whether everything corresponds to the facts, who knows..... As you can read on the reflector, this lamp is from the company “Starklicht-Otte”, built of course by Petromax. Starklicht-Otte was founded in 1927 and probably sold these lamps and many others to municipal utilities, as they still do today, or lent them out at the time. For large night construction sites, especially in track construction, lamps were then lent for an agreed period of time with a worker who filled, maintained and operated them. After the very dark period in Greater Germany and the liberation by the Allies, this lamp must have been stored together with many other items that were no longer needed on a daily basis in an attic in a hall of the public utility company. At the beginning of the 1960s, this attic had to be cordoned off because of the danger of accidents and nobody was allowed to enter it. In recent years, however, the space was needed to build a new hall and the building was emptied before the old hall was demolished. A lot of old things stored there, tools, ovens and even this lamp were brought back into the light of day. I got this lamp from one of the lucky people who cleared out the hall. He cleaned it and gave it to me in working order. “Thank you!”. He himself thought it was an 835 Petromax due to the lack of labels. But the tank, carburetor, base plate and above all the 800 nozzle make it an 868A. When I asked the “Starklicht-Otte” company for any spare parts, samples or other written information, the answer was unfortunately “no”.
Well done As far as I know,all 868As had this adapter ring that allowed the use of 2 different glass sizes. I find the contemporary lettering on the reflector particulary original.
