Hello, a Magnaphare Floodlight has now found its way into my collection. Unfortunately the original glass pane is missing, the non-original glass pane that came with it burst as expected during the first test run. The clay burner and the mixing tube construction were missing. The intake section of a Primus 991 works reasonably well. Either I get a spare part like this, or I have to try to make it myself. The reflector will be re-chromed by a friend, and I'm not sure where I can get a suitable glass pane.
Nice lamp. Consider also making the stand for it as well the carry handle. I have used standard window glass before with good results. The glass should fit well, which mean to must have space to get bigger. Also it needs time to get used to the temperature. Slow pre heating is essential. You can also slit the glass into a two piece window. This way temp. issues are minimal.
The handle is included, the threads just need to be reworked a little. I probably won't be able to build a frame, as I don't have the facilities for that. I will see a glazier about the glass pane, a two-piece pane would also be ok.
Neil McRae (@Mackburner) says this in his Pressure Lamp Catalogue: “The Magnaphare brand is only known from two examples of model 250 and one model 200M. They appear to be Standard lamps made in the Swiss factory of Standard-Licht GmbH. It is possible that Magnaphare is a retailers name rather than a Standard-Licht Brand.” Of the floodlight he says: “200M: Floodlight Projector in the style of Standard-Licht GmbH model 3515M with short stand. Label on collar with “MAGNAPHARE Swiss Made No. 200M”.” Of the Standard floodlight, Neil says: “3515M: 4000cp kerosene floodlight. Single mantle on Preston type generator, 1 Lt fount. No stand. Alcohol pre heat only. “3515M1: As 3515M, but with frame stand… .” @leo How does you “Magnaphare 2000M” compare to these descriptions? Best regards Tony
@Tony Press I can't say anything about the history of the Magnaphare brand. However, my lantern seems to be identical to the “Standard 3515M”. No frame, just a carrying handle. I can't say whether the 350 Petromax nozzle/needle are original. The carburetor is marked Standard.
