    Hi folks.

Had a search but can't find anything. I've unscrewed the control cock but there is a large knurled nut with an extra thick washer still in the tank.

Do I need that thick washer or will the control cock washer seal things.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brian

Hello Brian, I assume that you are restoring one of the Tilley pork pie lanterns which you obtained recently?

What you call a nut is actually a bush, which allows the control cock to be positioned so that it's not obstructed by any of the cage supports.

That bush also unscrews, but they can be stiff, the washer which you mentioned is the control cock washer, Jeff.

    Hi Jeff,

yes the control cock goes inside a bush and there's a washer on the control cock.

There is a thicker than normal washer, perhaps 2mm, between the bush and the tank. that's the one I'm after.

    Thanks

Hello Brian, that thick washer should not be there.

The washer which is on the control cock makes the seal, Jeff.
