I decided to use an incomplete project of Kerry Leslie (@kerry460, RIP) to make a stainless steel mesh chimney for a reconstructed Coleman 427 lantern. The mesh had obviously been used on some lamp or other by Kerry, but was not completed into a fixed cylinder. It was just a long roll, with the cut edges carefully folded and pressed to lose the sharp ends of the wire. I used brass eyelets to join the roll into a cylinder, and another larger eyelet to make a lighting hole. The black line on the mesh is an artefact from Kerry. Here, in action: Burning off the mantles. Full blast. It works well and I’ll keep it on this lantern as it is made up of at least two 427s, has a rather worn top ring to the globe cage, and will be a user lamp. Kerry had a few stainless steel mesh globes on various lanterns, probably because of belting around the bush in his G-wagon. Cheers Tony
It might actually be But I doubt it. Many manufacturer use this hole in the globe for lighting. Ditmar and Phoebus, just to mention some.
