    Hello
My wife and I have decided to set up a new business manufacturing portable kitchens.
One of the additional items we want to sell are Tilley lamps.
Now I have sorted all this with Tilley International, but I need some help with a description page, so how would you promote Tilleys in a few words?
I need to say how good, reliable and robust they are, could also do with a good video clip of how to light one of the new type etc
    Any one help?

Sorry to be so blunt, but IMHO, I think you'd need to be mindful of the Trade Descriptions Act...

Perhaps you would do better to partner with Vapalux or Coleman.

    Hi Winchman

Not many of the folks round here seem to like the X246B model and to be sure it is not to the build quality of the older X246 Guardsman. However, I have used them for many years and providing the instructions are adhered to they will give many years of good service.

I would have thought Tilley Int would be able to give you some "sell feature" pointers, but the best way would be for you to learn the lamp. Buy an old one from a car boot sale or from an auction site, get some new seals and mantles (Fettle Box & Base Camp) pull it to pieces, rebuild it and light it. This would be the best way to get to know a product you wish to sell and should you encounter any problems the experts on this forum will surely have an answer for you.

Good luck with the new venture.

    Regards, Jeremy

I may not like the modern Tilley much but it is one of only two lamp production companies still operating in the Western World and the only British company. So it is good to promote them and help to keep the company in business.

As a new lamp they are simple to use and fettle and are reliable giving a good light. They have been making paraffin lamps for 92 years now so have a long heritage and are well known to users of lamps so parts are easy to find. ::Neil::

I don't think stocking them is the issue and I'm sure Tilley will supply you with as many as you want. I suspect the problem will be selling them - based on seeing the same lantern languishing on a shelf in a fairly local hardware shop for years.

If I was considering selling paraffin pressure lamps (which I'm not!) them I'd find out which Army Depot or whatever was selling off these. Apparently they go very cheaply - nowhere near the £85 BIN plus £10 P&P asked in the listing.

Then, financially, you'd be miles ahead of the Tilley lantern which are selling currently for £120 and you'd have something that truly was "good, reliable and robust"

    Just my two penn'orth...

    Thanks
I have spoken to Coleman and to be blunt they dont want to know, I cant deal direct unless I spend thousands.
One big issue we have had all along is as we are a new company who want to sell UK manufactuired goods if possibe, we dont want credit and pay with our order.
Some manufactures have been really helpfull and some its a wonder they get any new customers the way they want to treat us.
Tilley along with a few others have been excellent and very willing to support us.
So we are happy to sell Tilleys
