I've been finding a lot of vintage chicken coup heaters as I browse for parts for other things, such as torch or lamp parts, and while most are missing parts, some look like essentially a hurricane lamp with a tin soup can for a shade. Could they really be that simple, or have I just not discovered something? Image of one example stolen from Fleabay for reference.
These coop heaters were used on (chicken)egg hatching boxes to provide the warmth that normally comes from the brooding chicken. It was a bit primitive, and on a rather small scale but it worked (only if one knew how!). Nowadays done on an industrial scale using electrickerty and computer steering.
