Do you know if this hood is original to this lantern? I have a similar hood, but it came as just the hood. I can probably find a similar vintage lantern to put it on. I would say it is nickel plated. Just doesn't 'feel' like chrome.
@Nils Stephenson Hello Nils It is as I found it many years ago, I will go with you being nickel plated. Is your one just as rusty ????? The green tank one with rusty hood I posted was the first one I found and I was in the dark what the original finish was untill I found this one with some of the plating still left on it. Should I get them both replated ????? Cheers Mark.
Unfortunately all my Australian lamps are back home in Oz, so I can't check things out. From memory it is slightly better but still quite rusty. In my list of lamps I have an older KeroPet with a nickel hood (I'm assuming what you would call a type 2) that is similar to your green tank one. Unfortunately I havn't taken a photo of it so can't remember much about it but I'm sure it is just as rust as yours. If the rust pitting is not too bad then it can be ok to get them re-plated. At least it protects them a bit.
