I was short of a threaded knurled nut and spacers for a gallery so ordered a set with springs as I couldn’t find anyone selling them . As they were noticeably different from an original I thought I would post them here. As well as the obvious differences the threads are different and poorly formed.. the hole for the spring is off centre ; I haven’t tested them for thickness.. they may be close to an original. I have ordered springs before and they seemed to be stainless, much thicker and hard to use (pull out to fit a globe)… these came in a sealed packet and are oiled so perhaps are actually spring steel
Original gallery screws and nuts are hard to come by, alot of galleries are missing these parts. I have also bought copies as well and sometimes you have to grind the inner end to allow the globe to fit into position. You can see the difference in your first photo, they are slightly longer than the original ones. But on the other hand it's better to have copies than nothing at all.
I have a few different styles of NOS gallery pins, nuts and screws. I'm not sure, though, which are later Tilley parts or parts made by others. Tony
Thanks for the replies! Yes, I’m sure they will be used but it won’t be without some tinkering as has already been pointed out by @Buggerlugs I also tried the cone part in the gallery without a spring and it shows the importance of getting smaller parts as close to the originals as possible.. Here is the Tilley cone (press-formed) .. and the repro cone (lathe turned) it doesn’t slide all the way ‘home’ so may contribute to the tight glass fit scenario Brian mentioned. All good fun :-) Tilley parts changed over time and here is another Tilley gallery (or Radiator reflector) nut which I have seen on earlier Tilleys.. it’s the smaller one @Tony Press these ones were from a Uk supplier.. I have since found some from the Far East that may be a closer shape to the original..
I too required a set of gallery pins for my TL. Having read the previous posts, is there any preferred supplier offering ‘more’ correct pins? always happy to recycle if anyone has a set available. Actual, I only need 2 nuts and one complete pin to get things working properly.
@Mustlust There are other sources but T W Sands in Melbourne may have spares? Perhaps other members nearer you might have bits? Kitelamp in Taiwan are worth looking at.. There was another seller in the far east but I can’t see them at the moment There are 2 table lamp galleries.. the parts I showed are from the later one The earlier gallery has just the pin and the knurled nut (no cone) Over here there are members who could help or you could try Base-Camp stoves regards pb
I only noticed the missing nuts this morning. Just placed an order with Bernie on Monday . Thanks for your reply
