I have a Petromax 820 that has a broken need, I have needles from a 500 here but the size of the threads are not the same. The new needle thread size are thinner than the one it came with. I was looking to thin the needle I got on fine sandpaper but the threads stopped me. Wonder where I could locate the needles and probably I would have to upgrade the needle stem too since the threads are different. Also the jet I have on the carburetor has an “X” stamped only. Lamp is meant to run on petrol, no loop on the vaporizer. Any help would be
@Pancholoco1911 No info on the needle thread size unfortunately. All what I can say that this table lamp with the metal stem appears in the 1929 106u catalogue. Later catalogues (1930 - 1932 and 1936) show a wood or bakelite stem on that type. The lamp is rated 200 HK for "Gasolin" what seems to be not quite the same as petrol / white gas today, because there also existed model 820B for these fuels and model 822 for kerosene / paraffin. In your place I would just try to fit a standard 200 - 250 HK needle and modify the needle rod accordingly, if necessary. I'm not aware that the thread sizes changed except for the jet thread at the 100 HK lanterns. I wish you good success to get this one going (it would also fit nicely into my collection for sure )
@Martin K. Thank you! I also messaged over Instagram. I will order a 250 cp needle and a needle rod from Britelyt and start from that. I have already replaced the NRV and I need to replace the pick up tube since the one it came with it has a crack from top to bottom. Also the machined screws in the top ventilator where replaced at some point with wood screws (that made me cringe so bad and very mad) now I need to find some brass ones and get a tap/ dies set to match the threads in the inner burner. @Pancho - I agree with that, even in pre-1930 Petromax lamps I had no problem to swap needles. As far as I remember some 200HK WWII PX jets were stamped "XX". Please post some more pics once you are done with that lamp. Another great find, congratulations all the best, Piotrek
