Serge and jluc14 sent me their farm Tito Landi for rescue. On Serge's lamp the damage is not significant, I also have to make the clip that secures the upper part to the burner. As for Jean-Luc's lamp the oxidation is impressive, but I didn't think I would find so much damage on its tank. The side is perforated on all sides, the only possible solution is epoxy resin loaded with silica, and possibly a glass fabric placed fresh on fresh, and to finish a layer of pure resin to seal everything. I am open to any other suggestions. For the bottom, it will be glued with the loaded epoxy (and here is the donor of the graft)
Thank's @JEFF JOHNSON Serge's lamp is finished. Now I'm focusing on Jean-Luc's which requires more thought and attention. I think I have the solution with epoxy resin, but before I start I'm waiting for feedback/thoughts from friends. I'm not immune to making a bad decision
I got rather addicted to Tito Landi tablelamps at one point though I never ever managed to get one to run. I think once the wick gets old, dried out or frazzled, that's just about it although I have heard of people making replacement ones. Mantles are also a problem and have to be made / cobbled up from others...
Nice repair on the first one As for the second one, I've never tried to a tank with so many holes . Lead wiping with lead solder or tin might be another option but rather difficult and would end up heavy.
There’s consideration too of the fuel for a Tito Landi, both variations of gasoline or alcohol (determined by jet size) being volatile fuels I wouldn’t want to gamble my safety on with tanks so far gone, particularly if epoxy filler is propsed for the repair.
@David Shouksmith , I made new wicks from cotton mop cloth. And I also make my mantels from Chinese copies of Peerless.
@ROBBO55 & @presscall , Epoxy is easier to work with, and is resistant to hydrocarbons. All my Tito lamps are sealed with epoxy and no leaks to date.
Hmm, "resistant" sounds a bit time-limited to me. Possibly something like the difference between 'showerproof' and 'waterproof'...
