Newbie here. Just inherited 4 old lanterns and trying to decide what to do with them. One is pictured below, but thus far I can't find any info on it. I'll probablly be asking some dumb questions on the others as well, so please bear with me, as my main hoby is old pellet guns.
Judging by the characteristic diamond-shaped punched out holes on the frame collar and hood in combination with a squarish valve knob, the lantern was likely made by Akron Lamp & Mfg Company for Mongemery Ward during the 1930s. Design probably based on Akron's Model 132xx series. The Model No. 04-RA-60-8846 is specific by Montgemery Ward. Some reference can be found in Terry Marsh's website: Akron Lamp Co. lanterns
Thank you. Based on its condition, is this a candidate for parting out (if it were yours)? Hopefully Im not imposing..
If it were mine, I would restore it unless the tank (fount) was rusted to useless. Welcome, @JohnnyBgoode. Tony
I would restore this lantern. Check for stress cracks first, it will look nice once restored. You don't see many of these around
Most collectors would gladly restore it. Original old stock parts might be hard to come by. As long as the fount's intergrity is still good, the lantern could be made to operate again.
Very restorable. The generator screws into the valve and the pricker is a rack and pinion type mechanism. Understand how it works before you start to take it apart and be patient and gentle. Difficult to find a new generator, although some reproductions have been made, ask over of the Coleman Collector's Forum and search around. If you can silver solder, I have been successful unsoldering the large end of the generator, removing, cleaning and reinstalling the wire mesh insider the generator then soldering the tip back in place.
