Although fettling could be regarded the bonus of this trade, I admit time makes me try to avoid candidates that require more than a simple TLC. The Petromax 827 showed here New find - P 827 had an initial stuck filler pressure gauge. I have seen this issue discussed and these fillergauges dissected for repair, which could be a troublesome fettle. Unless there is an internal leak, probably these malfunctioning gauges that have been sat unused for decades simply are stuck due to corrosion. So I gave the gauge air inlet a drop of WD40 lurium. In retrospective this approach should not adress any mechanical corrosion issues as this way into the gauge machanics shold be sealed. Apparently the leaf spring is hollow (!?) and so when internaly pressurized it unfolds thus engaging the axeled hand. Dissecting the thing as mentioned is difficult because the air-screw (on mine) must be removed, and can only be done with a high risk of breakage. So, my advice would be to loosen the outer cover and rise it so that those slits become accessible. Here you can addyour preferred lurium solvant that should clear the corrosion. Let it rest a while an when pressurizing, give it some firm and gentle knocks. Simple fettle and I suspect it will cure most issues. The three top images are mine. The two last are admittable loaned from thw www, all in the name of a good cause.

Hello, I know it is an old thread, but could anyone give me a clue on what thread the tiny screw holding down the lid has?

    Regards, Ton.
