Greetings from the deep South, in the tidal zone of Louisiana, USA. I have just purchased an old Coleman Model 168 K which will be here soon and needs some TLC. I hope to have it running one day..and if not, i'll peddle it as a mantle decoration. It is coming without a pump. Can you advise me of another way to pressurize the tank? Or, must i beg and plead for a Coleman pump? If I need to make a proper nozzle to add air with a bike pump is there a spec available for length, diameter and taper of the fitting? Thank you in advance for any info you can offer to a fellow with stove fuel, but not yet lamp fuel, on his trousers. Piper
Hi Piper! Greeting from NW Pennsylvania. Coleman pumps are way easy to get here in the States, and are constantly listed on ebay. Just do a search for "coleman lamp pump" and you'll trip over a couple. The long ones are nice since the fill the tank faster, but even the short iron pumps work fine. Welcome aboard! Neighbor Al
Hi Piper, Welcome from Arlington, Texas. The external pump Coleman lanterns are pert near indestructible and pretty easy to get running. Send me a PT with your shipping address and I'll send you a short pump and spare fuel cap gasket and a pack of mantles. I just so happen to have an extra of each laying around.
And welcome from Boston, MA Piper, The 168K is a very cool lamp as it was made in Canada and designed for Kerosene only, but uses a still available R55 generator. It should have a small cup sitting on the generator which you fill with denatured alcohol to preheat the generator before lighting. Should be straight forward to get up and running and probably reasonable that this lamp should also work with Coleman fuel too. Dan
Thanks guys, you are very kind to chip in with advice and offers of parts for an old gray haired 10-year-old-at-heart. I'm looking forward to having a kero pressure lamp. Of course, i'll have to track down some glass for it when the time comes. It should make a nice addition to my other kero-smell toys, the pressure stoves. I'm looking forward to learning lots from you experienced guys. Piper
