Whilst stripping off the military light green paint I found gold paint underneath. Undercoat? or something else?

I’ll check my green-of-that-colour Aladdins tomorrow.

    Cheers

Looks very similar. I was amazed the paint stripper removed all the green paint but left the underlying gold substance or paint. Was it originally gold and then painted green for a certain customer. Will be interested in what turns up.

Further post here of some more images showing what I beileve to be gold paint on the Aladdin 1A after I stripped off the light green Army type colour. Just for further clarification and discussion.

This last image shows the green colour that was all over the tank before I stripped the paint off.

These two discarded stress-cracked early Aladdin 1As have gold over brass under green (two different greens):

I have seen that gold under the green paint before but just assumed it was brass that hadn't corroded yet. Maybe the gold paint is some type of undercoat.

    Tony,
What do you think the purpose of the gold-like paint was?
