Hi my first post on website. I recently bought an Anchor 909 on eBay for £2 ( no other bidders) It was missing the pump plunger but had good glass “Made in West Germany. Looking on eBay for a plunger I found a lot of 3 Anchors all with plungers (but no glass)and got them for £10! X2 cp350 and x2 cp500. All of them have usually rust outside which I have removed and scuffed remaining chrome with sanding discc on angle grinder on one cp350 and one cp500. The interiors had only minor rust so treated with handful of screws and hot citric acid.(Not sure about hydrolysis on pressure vessel due to hydrogen embrittlement) Sprayed outside with silver paint from Toolstation. I have learnt a lot from dismantling these lamps. Firstly don’t use a heat gun to dry out the tank after acid cleaning - the filler fitting came loose as the solder melted! Had to resolder - bit tricky as the fitting is flanged on the inside so must be fitted before the base. Secondly Anchor/Petromax must have unique nut sizes. Tried metric, whitworth, AF - nothing fits. I have an aversion to adjustable spanner’s so opened up and thinned down a 14mm spanner with the angle grinder. The smaller nuts seem to be BA 0. Hope to post more when I get the lamps lit! Roger

I put the tank in a warm place and use an aquarium air pump to blow air through the tank thus removing moisture.
