A local antique shop in Bewdley has had one of these lamps on display for a couple of weeks now. It appears complete, and even has a good mantle but has no stand. Condition-wise it is good but with typical amounts of surface rust. The asking price is £195 and the seller told me he would come down to £175. I'm not intending to buy it, but at that price other members may be interested. I have no connection whatsoever with the shop owner, so any intending buyer would need to visit the shop and inspect the lamp. Phil
Typical antique dealer who values stuff by size. A half decent FL6 is probably about as rare as a TL10 or even a late 40s TL106 both of which are worth around £30 to £80 at best on the Bay. BUT FL6 is big so must be worth more? ::Neil::
Yeah, I agree with Neil - he's priced it by size alone. We normally don't do valuations here because there are so many variables, particularly with auction sites, but I think he needs to knock that '1' off the front and then divide by 3. That's where I'd be starting and doubtless, he wouldn't be having any of that... On the other hand, if it's an early one with the long, thin pump and brass plate, I might be inclined to pay more. I'd guess he got it for next to nowt as part of a house clearance and, in reality, just wants to turn some sort of a profit. If it helps, got one from eBay the other night for £36...
Thanks for the advice chaps. I expect it will simply remain unsold, taking up a lot of space in his over-priced shop. Phil
