Hello every one hope you are all keeping well . I picked up this Coleman Canadian built CQ at the weekend from a antiques fair I was very pleased with it and the little haggle on the price made it even better . There is no makers logo on the front of the font and the embossed lettering in the base shows no date that I can see, I did find a patent date in the air tube of march 16 1920 . The font was full to the brim with fuel and a encouraging hiss as the pressure escaped when I undone the filler cap, there is a lead seal still in place although a little thin, under the inner cap of the bell was also a paper ticket which I believe we're put in at the factory ? One member of the forum sent me a link for the lighting procedure which was very much appreciated ,another member in a Facebook group has suggested this is a very early model possibly 1921 and should have a 329 globe ? Any confirmation or other info will be gratefully accepted as this is my first lamp of this model Here's a few pictures of this lamp . Thanks marten
Good find i found threads saying they weren’t dated til 1924 but yours is a Canadian CQ so not sure if that has anything to do with things? (it probably has!) pb edit : here is a photo of the start of a thread .. if you scroll down it shows some early CQs Here’s some info that may help.. it mentions tall and short founts/tanks which was something I didn’t know existed and tall and short handles! Hopefully more knowledgeable members will chip in to narrow it down if needed but I think you’re in the right area
Hi podbros Thanks for the links ,I did do some web searches yesterday but I was getting conflicting information or maybe I was reading it wrong? Like you said maybe some more knowledgeable members could offer some more info Thanks Marten
Thanks Jeff I do like to have a tinker ,from what I can see by looking at the lamp gallery all I need is a gallery ,glass and a pump then maybe a gentle mop on the bench polisher . Marten
Hello Marten, those CQs were built to last, but the rust on the base plate of your tank looks bad, so that is the first task which I would tackle, if I recall correctly that paper ticket was to show that the lamp had passed the factory's quality control check, the link below shows my early CQ which is also undated, but it was made in the USA.. Coleman CQ., pre 1924.
