Found today at an attic clearance in Normandy. Looks to be a solid enough fount, but we'll see. Does anyone stock powder coated replacement caps these days?

When you say powder coated caps, do you mean the topmost enamel part of the hood? Yours looks in ok condition but you can find replacements on eBay.

BTW, the coating is vitreous enamel that is capable of withstanding the temperatures. Powder coating would melt and burn away in no time and there is no paint that can withstand the kind of temperatures that lanterns put out. The hood just under the topmost part is brass and doesn't need painting or coating with anything.

I think you've got yourself a fine old lantern that will look great and work well once you've fixed it up.

Very nice lantern. It's a Vapalux E41 which is less common than the 300

20250612_163652.jpg I bought one last week and this is what I've done with it. Polished with a Mobil 1 (10w40 full synthetic lol) soaked rag and will leave. Hood lightly rubbed with fine grit paper. Just new glass and seals to do

It will be a nice project once I get home, it's been ages since I got a 'new' lamp.
