Few years ago I gave away some good lamps to mates, but stupidly of the 5 I kept, 0 work.
(Hahaha I suppose I thought I'd leave myself some challenges!)

Working on my nice Veritas 350 now. Got a new pricker (which screws into the top of the rod) but I'm having a prick (pun intended) of a time threading it into the jet. I think there's an adjustment nut at the base of the pricker rod, maybe I have that wrongly set. Obviously I'm being gentle with it so's not to scrunch the new pricker. Any tips would be appreciated.

Is it a genuine veritas pricker that you have or is it a ptromax one , if it is a petromax one it needs to have the angular corners filed off so that it ends up round in shape to be able to slide up into the jet but I cant remember if the internal rod height has to be adjusted as well.
    Best regards Ian.

Yes, I'm not 100% sure it's an original Veritas one. It's got to be close. It's very difficult to adjust the height of the rod apart from trial and error because when it's assembled you can't see/feel the pricker entering the jet. Tricky to get the lower part of the rod to ensure it enters the lower female tapered part of the tube expansion joint. Initially the spiral combustion doover was stopping the rod entering sufficiently. (Pretty hard to describe all this). I'll keep at it tomorrow.

I should be able to check and adjust the pricker spindle by setting it up with the burner assembly removed. One thing that's confusing me is that mine has a vaporiser spiral/gauze, but the parts illustrations don't show this.
Perhaps it is part of the vaporiser assy so doesn't merit a seperate part no? Maybe I could try running it without the spiral/gauze (What's that called?)

Well you'll be pleased to hear I've got a Handi and an Austramax going. (Is there some natural law that says if a lamp is left on a shelf for some years, It needs some TLC before it will go!)
Now my Veritas needs a new pricker... Yes I've broken it, Bugger!

Henry it's the Vaporiser assembly: Tube with jet on top, pricker spindle,- pricker screwed into top of this spindle, a spiral wire inside the tube through which the needle spindle travels up and down.

Julian, I don't believe there should be a gauze inside the vapouriser.

Adjustment of the pricker is achieved at the base of the needle rod and locked off with the nut. Yes it is a case of trial and error.
