Hi, I am new to this and hope I am doing it correctly. I need help identifying this lamp. I recently purchased it from an estate sale and know nothing about oil lamps. It has an Rd number stamped on the burner. It also says Lampe Veritas and Foreign preceded bt 50 c p. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome aboard! It appears to be a centre draught round wick lamp, but if you dismantle the lamp and post a photo of the bottom of the tank then that will help us to assist you and also post some photos of the burner.
Here are more pictures of the lantern broken down. Is there a method of dating the lantern from the serial number on the burner? Thank you for any and all help and information.
Those photos confirm that it is a centre draught round wick lamp and that the flame spreader is still there, because the flame spreader is a removable part they are often missing and it's difficult to find a replacement. That type of lamp was made for many decades, so it's difficult to be precise about it's date of manufacture, but in my opinion, your lamp is around 100 years old.
Thank you. I bought it because of the red globe and had no idea that oil lamps were anything other than the single wick that I had seen previously. The chimney has two stamps on it that are not complete so I can not read them. If I can obtain anymore information I will pass it on. Thank you again.
