Cleaning a burner from a parts lantern (as the base is blown) when the air tubes that i thought were stainless steel showed signs of being plated?
I have seen them in Brass and always thought the others were all stainless which some might well be?

    ..before cleaning..

Just doing some more cleaning with diluted citric acid and after a short while part of the tubes have gone a fetching shade of copper!

not quite sure if it’s the steel that has coppered or the plating?

there is bound to be a scientific explanation?? [-o<

It shouldn't be a displacement reaction since Iron is more reactive than Copper. It makes me wonder, since the copper is deposited only close to the brass. if it wasn't a small version of electrolysis.
The dissimilar metals in acid made a cell and the copper got deposited there electrically as a result...

Needs somebody better at this stuff than me.
