Back to working on my lamps after a turbulent period in life. I bought this AIDA Express 1500N 500cp 2nd hand from a person where the lamp hung unused in an old barn for more than 30 years. A complete overhaul was more than necessary and I took all the parts apart to give it a major overhaul. After treating each part with great care and shining the tank and hood as good as possible it was time to reassemble the lamp. After a frequent check of the tightness of everything it is ready to burn again after many years of inactivity. A photo or small video will follow. All parts are still original and that makes this lamp a unique piece. The lever of the quick starter is one from the old box so I don't know the age of it yet. There is no marking visible at the bottom of the fuel tank.
Often I am just ashamed how my lamps looked before fettling and do not post these pics so nobody knew what kind of crap I buy Very nice lamp in great condition. I like that AIDA deer logo a lot. Can you somehow check the manufacturing date? Are there any scratches or numbers at the tank bottom like in Petromax lamps? all the best, Piotrek
Hi Jörg, Ik think also that is the date for the lamp however I have seen pictures grom AIDA lamps with this 1953 on but a different lever on the quickstarter , more ''modern'' . The one on my lamp is cast aluminium or so..have not find a picture with the same ..
Hey Piotrek , Why should you be ashamed for what you buy? For me , I think for most collectors there is no crap but only hidden storys in bad looking lamps..it is that what makes them so nice to buy..
@Jörg Wekenmann - it is so obvious that I somehow did not register it @tom van thienen - I agree with your opinion regarding value of lamps individual histories vs. their look etc. Regarding different rapid types the one that you have is fragile and was quite often damaged and replaced with later models.
I also own an AIDA 1500 N.The tank marking is clearly 6/3 , which means June 1953. In 1953 there was no other, more modern lever available for the Rapid . The Dominorapid didn't arrive until 1954.
