For those who may be interested… discovered yesterday in a junk/reclaimation yard near me… a Tilley R1 that had been someone’s ornament by the looks of things. Apart from being polished to within an inch of its life and all the seals being perished (naturally) it seemed complete.

Dismantling the burner head showed the ceramic tube to be good although the burner head looks a touch warped - not too nasty though. Anyway… one seal change later and a quick tighten just to make sure and it burst into life. God, is it effective … !

If anyone in East Yorkshire by the way there were a few Tilleys there too - a rather sad but probably restorable IMG_5613.jpeg IMG_5614.jpeg later X246A, a parts only 246B and two pretty good 246B’s. PM me if you’re interested and I’ll point you in the right direction…

    best,

    Chris

It didn’t sadly … just what’s there. But it was only £10 so I’m not too disappointed … I’ll grab a repro one soon
