A few weeks ago whilst at work, i found this Petromax Rapid in a bin store thrown away, which came as a great surprise, i mentioned over on CCS earlier at first i just thought it was a Chinese Anchor or Butter fly brand. But when i picked it up i was surprised it is a genuine Petromax, it was missing the pressure release key a filler cap seal on not surprising a broken mantle, when the parts arrived these were the only parts needed to bring this great lantern back to life, here are a few pictures of the lantern. Not a very good pic here this was taken the day i took it home. The lantern with new mantle that has been burnt in A sticker from where the lantern was originally purchased from,an angling shop in Maidstone Kent Here is the great lantern running superbly what a great find
Great job of restoring it back to functionality. Just to mention, the lantern appears to me like an earlier Chinese-made Petromax copy, not a genuine German-made one. Despite that, it isn't exactly that common these days. With the right fettling and tuning, it should run just as well as an original unit.
I agree with myn, it seems to be a Chinese made petromax, it should have a six digit serial no on the bottom of it and in the logo the star has 11 points and not 10 like the German made ones, I've got three of these and I've got them all working very well exactly as your one does, its surprising what some people throw away. Best regards Ian
Nice find ! Congratulations. I agree with fellow collectors : it is a Chinese copy. The monogram isn't pressed into the tank but looks more engraved. Look at the tails of the sea horses. It works well so no problem. Try to use the "soft start" also. It saves you a "pumping thumb".
This lantern was discussed over at CCS: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/lucky-find.56294/ Cheers Tony
