Hi Everyone I have bought a Vitreosil globe off a seller on Ebay who claims it is for a Tilley lamp. The globe is 2" wide and is half the width of a standard Tilley gallery. I have bought it by mistake and realised my error, however the seller is refusing to issue a refund. Does anyone know what lamp if any it may have come from? I can't see any evidence that tilley ever made a 2" wide gallery. Thanks Tom
I’ve seen those before on the Bay of Evil, but checked the measurements. I think if it’s the same person I sent a message saying it’s not Tilley. I’ve no idea what it’s off, sorry. Tony
@Tom_Tilley83 Hi Tom I think both types were used with the older gas burners .. vitreosil made quite a range of shades in different sizes.. Tilley settled on the larger gallery size for their lamps.. they started originally in the town gas business I believe? Jeff and Paul M will know more @JEFF JOHNSON @paul m
Those small globes are for mains gas / town gas burners, so in my opinion the seller should not have listed it as for a Tilley lamp. Tilley did sell the larger Vitreosil globes and the link below shows the relevant paperwork. Tilley were in the gas lighting business before they started to manufacture pressure lamps etc.. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/1931-list-no4-shades-and-globes.2399
